Stevens Digital Group, Inc. announced today that they have been selected by Philips Consumer Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) as the Philips Preferred Installation Partner for the Philips Business Display Solutions Group. Stevens Digital Group CEO Dave Stevens said, “Philips is the first major television manufacturer to recognize the need to offer professional installation services for flat panel televisions and business displays.” Philips CRT televisions are currently installed in approximately 40% of the hotels in the United States. As the digital video transition begins in the hotel industry the installation of flat panel TV’s is a lot more complex. “In the hotel business, the old CRT TV is traditionally connected to a video network and has been modified to offer Pay per View movies and in some cases, Internet Access. Hoteliers will encounter several challenges in replacing their old TV’s. One of the major problems they face is getting rid of the old CRT TV, which typically is modified for the hotel’s Pay per View network. This means, in most cases, they can’t be used in a home. They have to be disposed of in an environmentally compliant manner. Stevens Digital Group has put in place a program to handle the disposal of thousands of these old CRT TV’s as well as reinstall the new Philips TV’s to the existing network,” stated Stevens.
With over 4 million hotel rooms in the United States, many with two or more TV’s per room, and most modified for Pay per View networks, Stevens estimates the transition will take 4 to 5 years at a cost well exceeding $2 billion dollars. “Our installation expertise in the hotel industry has been in the installation of Pay per View networks.
